Turkish Ottoman Genocide Recognition: 4 March 2010 USA Vote!

  Stockholm

This year marks the 95th anniversary of the Ottoman Genocide of the Aramean (Syriac), Armenian and Greek people in Turkey, perpetrated by the Ottoman Turkish government and denied to this day by the Turkish State.

The letters can be downloaded via the links below and include two attachments with background information on the SUA and the forgotten Aramean (Syriac) Genocide. Among other things, the SUA writes:

Many countries around the world have acknowledged the Armenian Genocide, as have 43 American state governments. On 4 March 2010, the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee will be holding a markup on the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res. 252), opening the way to full House consideration of this vital human rights measure.

This is a major step in the fight for Genocide Recognition. The Armenian population and lobby groups are to be congratulated for their efforts in this regard. They are struggling against a behemoth Turkish Lobby group which is fighting against any American recognition.

The Syriac Universal Alliance is fighting for the same recognition and has sent its support of Resolution 252 to the Members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. SUA has also sent letters of support to Armenian Groups in the United States. In both letters, the SUA has made it clear that the crimes against humanity were also committed against the Syriac (Aramean) community. The Ottoman Turkish Government also had a clear policy of extermination against the Arameans (Syriacs) and this should also be recognised.

The SUA also notes that on March 17, Swedish Parliament will table a motion on voting of Armenian Genocide Resolution. The recognition of Genocide of Syriacs will also be discussed. In a show of their lobbying desperation, Azerbaijani-Turkish organizations of Sweden collected 5000 signatures against the initiative and sent them to the Chairman of oppositional Swedish Social Democratic Party.

Please see attached letter to the Members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
