NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION IN SPECIAL CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL OF THE UNITED NATIONS

FAS attended an event of Christian Solidarity International in Zürich

Yesterday Christian Solidarity International of Switzerland (CSI) organised a presentation with the Egyptian Coptic sociologist Dr. Mariz Tadros from the University of Sussex with the topic “The Future of Religious Minorities in the Middle East” in Zürich.

Besides this impressive presentation, Dr. Tadros demonstrated her new book called “The Muslim Brotherhood in Contemporary Egypt”, which mainly focuses on the increase and expansion of political Islamism in Egypt.

On behalf of the Federation of Arameans in Switzerland (FAS), Severiyos Aydin, Sven Aydin Be Pathe, Shamiran Stefanos and Alfreda Eilo attended the presentation and even got the chance to speak to Dr. Mariz Tadros herself and the organisers of the event.

The CSI was highly interested in a future cooperation with the FAS and suggested to  possibly organise a similar lecture concerning the Aramean Christian (Syriac-Orthodox) minority of Syria.

Above mentioned representatives of FAS had the chance to talk to:
• Mr. Herbert Meier (International director of CSI),
• Dr. John Eibner (Project director of the Middle East),
• Gunnar Wiebalck (Project director Sudan and Pakistan),
• Benjamin Doberstein (director of CSI Switzerland),
• Adrian Hartmann (Chief editor and spokesperson of CSI),
• Dr. Mariz Tadros (Egyptian Coptic sociologist).

FAS  managed to hand out WCA Press Releases “The Reality of Sectarian Violence in Syria“ and "What do Aramean (Syriac) Christians in Syria Really Want?" and WCA Letter “WCA & FAB asks EU to Reconsider its Position on Syria” to Herbert Meier, Dr. John Eibner, and Dr. Mariz Tadros.

Representatives of CSI declared to get in contact with FAS for the 2013 campaign and showed interest to publish different information, reports and files concerning Aramean Christians in Syria in their CSI Magazine.
