WCA President meets Türkiye's Minister of Culture and Tourism

On 11 March 2022, the WCA President Johny Messo had a very successful meeting with Türkiye's Minister of Culture and Tourism H.E. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy on the sidelines of the second Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
On behalf of the Aramean people, the WCA President first thanked the Minister and Türkiye for nominating nine monasteries and churches from Tur-Abdin for UNESCO’s World Heritage List (for more on this, see the recent signature ceremony held in Midyat, Southeast Turkey, in which a WCA delegation participated). Johny further highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting together with the Aramaic cultural heritage, which is an integral part of Türkiye’s national heritage. Minister Mr. Ersoy appreciated WCA's vision and warmly welcomed the request for closer cooperation in this respect.
Among other things, Johny requested the Minister whether Aramaic could be added to the list of languages for tour guides. The Minister responded favorably to this suggestion but recommended to contact a specific department within the ministry regarding this question. WCA will soon provide an update about this question.
